about.

Borrowing the light and mood of nostalgic memories and partnering them with elements of the modern

Newfoundland and Labrador lifestyle, Newfoundland-born artist Maggie Rex creates sentimental, yet poignant

atmospheres. While the focus is on that light and mood the sharp details of reality are always present. Maggie likes to play with many artistic mediums, such as watercolours, textiles, ink and digital illustration. But her paramount creative vehicle is oil painting. Her body of work is focused on capturing silent moments in time through still life with meticulous and thorough attention to detail which draws the viewer into a wistful world and instills a feeling of longing.

Having studied toward the Fine Arts Bachelor at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in the early 2000s, Maggie had

intermittent affairs with her artistic impulses. After a several year build up Maggie decided to focus on her artistic career instead of keeping it as an occasional side-gig. She began creating art and graphics for various businesses online needs. 2019 saw her establish Lost Anchor Art House as a vehicle for her own self-promotion. An avenue which has proven to be lucrative both in the commercial sale of her art as well as allowing her to connect with her audience in an interactive way. Despite the hardships and barriers that accompanied the global pandemic, Maggie has continued to develop and share her work as well as collaborate with the community. The works in her collection have garnered her much praise and several awards. Her past year was expected to be capped off by her first solo gallery showing but as with seemingly all things these days the pandemic saw to postponing that.

Never one to let an opportunity to create sneak by Maggie has been using her lockdown time to focus on her

premiere solo gallery show and continue to further expand her study and capturing of silent moments…
